Since first agreeing to be a part of the Coast Plaza development, a few exciting changes have been made to improve the offering of The Beer Spot - Whangaparaoa.
“‘The Coast Plaza team have been amazing,”’ says Laurence Van Dam, Co-Founder and Owner of The Beer Spot.
An opportunity arose to take a different site in the development, one that is much more conducive to our offering and a great win for our future customers.’
“‘To have the confidence of the Coast Plaza team has given us momentum to roll out something different.”'
So, what is it?
“‘Well, the site is much larger and after talking with our franchisees (Ben and Tracey Kelsey and Craig and Claire Holt), we can tell you The Beer Spot – Whangaparaoa will be the site of our first ever ‘The Wine Spot.’
“‘Essentially, it’s the same concept as The Beer Spot, only with forty wines on offer as well.”’
Why the change?
“‘It’s not really a change rather than an expansion of the concept. We’ve had The Wine Spot concept in the wings for a long time. It’s always something we’ve always wanted to roll out and the Coast Plaza team have given us the perfect opportunity to do it.’
“‘And thanks to the commitment of Ben, Tracey, Craig and Claire, it’s a go”,’ says Van Dam.
“‘Our mission at The Beer Spot has always been to have great New Zealand beer as recognised and appreciated as New Zealand wine is. Having The Wine Spot right alongside The Beer Spot can only help that.”’
What can the customers expect?
“‘The same great service, knowledge and opportunity to try New Zealand’s greatest beers and wines. Just like we do sourcing our beer, the wines will come from independent New Zealand winemakers. These great small businesses struggle against the big guys for exposure and wine list placement. I think it’ll be a solid shift for independents.’
“‘In the same way we have transitional, or gateway beers available to traditionally mainstream beer drinkers, we’ll do the same with wines. There’ll be affordable, quality Sauvignon Blancs right up to high quality, small run Pinot Noirs, and everything in between.’
“‘The range of varietals in New Zealand now is staggering and with forty wine taps we’ll be able to let customers experiment and buy an incredible wine by the glass, rather than a wallet-busting bottle price.”’
How long do we have to wait?
“‘Demolition is almost complete and with construction going well, we are working towards a March opening,”’ says Van Dam.
“‘The team is excited and we can’t wait to be there for our customers on the Peninsula.”
